I grew up in Seattle after moving here for college. It was just before our Grunge Movement. The best record shop in my hometown was Fred Meyer. (For those not in the Northwest, FM is a locally-owned, dreary, department chain store with a gigantic selection of crap. I shop there all the time.)
Moving into the dorms, I was introduced to Siouxsie and the Banshees, and The Smiths, and a thousand other bands and I met people that loved all this crazy music I’d never heard of and they loved to share, man. I had to take jobs just so I could pay the VISA bills: if I wasn’t buying records, then I was buying blank tapes to get a copy of something from somebody. Seattle had a scene, too, it just hadn’t exploded yet. It was really cool.
That was a long time ago. I still love the music, I still love to find new stuff, and I still love to share it with people. Join me.
