In the early 1990s, there was a Goth shop in Seattle’s Capitol Hill neighborhood; a place for black, lacy clothing, leather goods, bracelets, etc. Cool place. I walked in one evening and immediately asked what was playing on their stereo. “Galaxie 500”, I was told. I turned around, walked right out and bought some.
Decades later, I wrote a piece “Yes is an Emotion, Yoko”, and a friend sent me note: “You knew this Galaxie 500 song was an Ono cover, right? No, I hadn’t known. It’s really good.
This is typical Ono. Imagine some beautiful and impossible; just close your eye and imagine.
Song: Listen, the Snow is Falling
Album: This is Our Music
Artist: Galaxie 500
Song Writer: Yoko Ono
For extra credit, let’s listen to Yoko, too. It’s sweet and tender.

Listen, the snow is falling over town
Listen, the snow is falling everywhere
Between Empire State Building
And between Trafalgar Square
Listen, the snow is falling over town
Listen, the snow is falling over town
Listen, the snow is falling everywhere
Between your bed and mine
Between your head and my mind
Listen, the snow is falling over town
Between Tokyo and Paris
Between London and Dallas
Between your God and mine
Listen, the snow is falling everywhere
Snow dream
Snow fall
Snow fly

It’s interesting to compare the two versions. I like the sleigh bells in Yoko’s version better and the guitar in the cover band’s version. Mellow tunes, like something you’d hum while watching the snow fall….

what a sweet, haunting little song. Thanks for sharing.
Been in Seattle for so long I love recognizing your references.
And I am still contemplating a question you asked me about the difference between the uniting power of music of today vs the music of the Hippie Era….hmmm. I KNOW the answer but have not found the words yet…
