My first idea for this prompt was The Clash, “Lost in the Supermarket”. Great song and one of my favorite bands. Then I thought of Bowie’s “Major Tom”, which is sort of a lost in space or gone-lost forever kind of story. But I really thought I should try to find a woman performer, because I haven’t had that many for this series, and it’s something that I think about.

I had a chance with Blondie but decided I didn’t really like that song (“Island of Lost Souls”).

I kept searching. I could do a whole playlist based on this prompt – Joy Division, Tacocat, The Doves, The Books, and Lloyd Cole could all be in play. I even had a chance to introduce the obscure Philip Boa and the Voodoo Club. And then I came to Luna and “Lost in Space”. Perfect. Cool band that probably many of you don’t know, and the song title brings me back to the David Bowie idea (well, in words, if not so much in meaning). So here it is.

Song: “Lost in Space”
Album: Penthouse
Artist: Luna
Song Writer: Dean Wareham

It’s true
You’re lazy
You’re tired
And crazy
And you know there’s something more
But you can’t give it a name
Someone’s selling all your heroes
And they seem so tame

You heard it all before
And said your case was tragic
You heard it all before
And now they say it’s magic

You need
Time off
For good
Behavior
And you know there’s something else
But you can’t give a name
Someone’s selling all your heroes
And it seems such a shame

You heard it all before
You said your case was tragic
You heard it all before
And now they say it’s magic

You heard it all before
They said your case was tragic
You heard it all before
And now they say it’s magic
