Updated 7 August 2019: Broken link!
This post has received a lot of visits (“a lot” in terms of the small amount of traffic that I generate at Community Noise), but nobody complained that the link was broken. This one should be more persistent. If you find a broken link, it’s easy enough to let me know: CommunityNoise.firstname.lastname@example.org.
I’m interpreting “move forward’ as something exciting or encouraging or “emotionally propelling”. I’m not sure what the author of the challenge list had in mind. Ergo, I’ve selected an old favorite, The The ─ This is the Day,
This is the day, your life will surely change
This is the day, when things fall into place
I’ve always thought of this as my “new start” song. Applicable when I graduate, start a new job, or set off on a challenging excursion. Plus, accordion!
Which teases a new topic that I’ve been thinking about, instrumentation. Maybe something that is wrong with rock and roll over the past 2 or 3 decades is the reliance on guitar, guitar, bass, and drums or maybe guitar, base, and drums. And vocals. The synthesizer helps, if you’re a dance band, but Talking Heads are so far ahead of anybody else that something else is needed. I’ve thinking about the flute in popular music recently. Watch this space for more (probably after the 30-song challenge is complete). If you know anything about the flute in popular music, please send me a note (CommunityNoise.email@example.com).
